How Dare You?
What limits must the artist respect or transpose to occupy the place he wants? Should the artist wait to be inserted into this place or is it his role to try to place himself? Is there a set path to be followed? Is there a possibility of diversion? What is, after all, the artist's place?
These are some of the questions I intend on investigating over the next three year period of the project “Como Ousas? (“How Dare You?”), December 2020 to December 2023. For this to happen, each month, a work from my “Invasion” series of paintings will be sent to museums around the world with a request for the work to be included in their collections.
Each museum can accept and incorporate the work into its collection, or it can be refused and returned with a justification as to why the work was not accepted. The institution is expected to send a response within three months. Failure to receive any communication will also be interpreted as a response.
By sending my work through the mail, without the guarantee of a reply, I place myself in front of the unpredictable, in a state of vulnerability that I consider to be fundamental for the artist.
The choice of institutions derived from asking myself the question: given the choice, where would I display my work?
